FIELD TRIP - 45 - Farmer Mike's U-Pick

2/6/2021

26031 Morton Ave.
Bonita Springs, FL 34135

Picture
It doesn't get any fresher than this! There are several U-Pick places in SWFL, but this is the biggest one I've found so far around the Bonita Springs area. It's not far from exit 116, so you can hit this and then do another Five Minute Field Trip in the area... It's just minutes from Barefoot Beach!
Our family loves this place for the strawberries, but it's great for tomatoes, flowers, bell peppers, hot peppers, and so much more.

FIELD TRIP - 39 - Waterfall Byway Scenic Drive

8/4/2020

HWY 64 near Cashiers and Highlands N.C.

Picture
Love waterfalls? I've never seen so many in such a small area! It seems like every few bends in the road you can find one. The windy roads in this area of N.C. zigzag along rivers, so you're never far from rapids, rivers to play or fish in, or waterfalls to visit.
We visited half a dozen in just a two days, without having to hike more than a couple minutes to see them. Get there early, avoid crowds or parking issues, and enjoy nature for free!

WE VISITED:
  • Lake Sequoyah Dam Falls
  • Bridal Veil Falls
  • Silver Run Falls
  • Mill Creek Falls
  • Norton Falls
  • Hurricane Falls

FIELD TRIP - 13 - Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium

6/2/2019

3450 Ortiz Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905

Picture
This place has a lot of stuff going on! It's a nature center, with hiking trails, wild animals, butterfly gardens, and it has a planetarium! It's actually the only planetarium in SWFL, so it's pretty neat! That's actually my favorite part, too!

Things you can do:
  • Watch 3 shows in the Planetarium
  • Hike the trails
  • Check out live animals
  • Learn about Florida native species of plants and animals
  • Get some fresh air
  • Visit the butterfly gardens
  • Go to Laser Shows and Special Movie showings (check their calendar)

While other places nearby might do the animals better or the hiking trails better, this place's Planetarium and inexpensive cost make it worth a visit.

FIELD TRIP - 12 - DEFY Extreme Air Sports

5/19/2019

9370 Dynasty Dr, Fort Myers, FL 33905

Picture
I've always liked trampolines, as have my kids, but this was the first time we'd ever been at an indoor Trampoline Park! I'm definitely going back, with or without my kids! Haha! I'll take them. They loved it.

It seems like a lot of money for an hour at first, but if you have younger kids, they have deals for parents to go with them. They even have 2 and under time so you don't have to worry about your little ones getting squished or stepped on.

And as for that hour, most people will be tired after an hour of constant climbing and jumping. I play basketball every week, and this had me using muscles I don't normally use for that. You can also pay for 1.5 or 2 hours if you want.

The socks are $3, but you can reuse them until they wear out. They're tight at first, but give you great grip on all surfaces.

What do you get here?
  • Stunt fall bags
  • Parkour/obstacle course
  • Zip lines
  • Trapeze Swings
  • Trampolines
  • Extreme Dodgeball
  • Tightrope
  • Ninja obstacle course
  • Pugil Stick Battles
  • and the list goes on!!!

FIELD TRIP - 11 - Barefoot Beach

5/17/2019

505 Barefoot Beach Blvd, Bonita Springs, FL 34134

Picture
This is easily one of the best beaches in SWFL. It has sandy white beaches, clear water, and a fair amount of shells.

Get here early or come on an off day, because all the parking areas can be full! At $8 for parking, it does seem to be a little more exclusive than the cheaper access beaches just up the road, but it still manages to fill up on weekends and holidays. It almost feels like a bit of a secret, as it's off a 3-5 minute slow drive past a really nice row of mansions.

Different times we've been here, we've found sand dollars, hermit crabs, dolphins, pelicans, sandpipers, and a bunch of shells!
