Want a Five Minute Field Trip that can keep your family busy for a few days? This might be it!
To get to Mackinac Island, Michigan, you need to take a ferry ride. Check for coupons and deals, and buy tickets online to save!
Once you're there, you can do a LOT of walking and hiking, or look into horse taxis, horse carriage tours, rental bikes, and a lot of options to get around.

Plus, this all requires a great boat ride back and forth, which may include a quick tour of the Mackinac Bridge!
This is more expensive than most of our trips, but if you pack some snacks and only visit outside most of the locations, it can still be reasonably priced!

Like dinosaurs? Like rocks, space, planetariums, and more? I think this is the Five Minute Field Trip for you! If you're in the mid-Michigan or Ann Arbor area, this trip is a must!
It's great for kids, adults, and other curious creatures! Plus, it's FREE! They appreciate donations, which help them open up new exhibits! More exhibits are coming soon. They have room to grow in this new building.
This has been a trip I've been making since I was a child, and it's great to share this with my own kids now!

Check out one of the largest waterfalls East of the Mississippi River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula! At 200 feet wide, this frothy, foaming waterfall is super fun to visit! It's also a very easy hike from the Upper Falls park entrance. Feeling like a bit more of a hike? Park at the Lower Falls and hike up to the Upper Falls!
With campgrounds, a pub/brewery restaurant, facilities, and gift shops, this is an excellent place to spend a weekend. Imagine the Fall colors, too!
This is one of my favorite places in Michigan.

Lake Superior has a lot of scenic views, but some of the best ones require you to get on boats or kayaks. This one matches a lot of those views, but you can do a lot of it from a car! Also, it's FREE!
So check out Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan! There are scenic overlooks, places to swim, ore docks, cliff divers, rocky beaches, and some amazing scenery!
This one is a definite is you're in northern Michigan!

Like history, industry, or mining? This is the place for you! Check out the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee, Michigan. It's not far from Marquette, so it's a great and FREE thing for you and the kids to do during a day trip out in the Upper Peninsula.

Greenfield Village is a collection of dozens of classic buildings, all arranged like a farm and small town. Munch on old-fashioned sweets and treats as horses stroll by, fancy old bikes roll by, and Model T cars rumble past you. Then, hitch a train ride around the whole village!
It has gift shops, snack stops, demonstrations, rides, and playgrounds! It's a hit for the whole family, plus it's pretty AND educational.

Love Christmas? This is definitely the place to go! It's the World's Largest Christmas Store! It's not far from I-75 in Frankenmuth, Michigan, and it's a great place to lose a few hours.
It's free to get in, and there are several acres of landscaped grounds and a store the size of several football fields. Inside, you'll find a dizzying display of Santas, moving displays, snowmen, lights, trees, and thousands of ornaments!
Don't forget that Frankenmuth has cheese shops, fudge shops, and great restaurants, too! Definitely make this a day trip!

Do you like nature and art? Lakenenland outside of Marquette, MI is definitely for you! Take a nice stroll down a wooded path and check out dozens of pieces of metal art! Many are junkyard salvage type art pieces. They're all pretty unique and interesting!
This site also has a bathroom, a picnic area, a small pond, a playground, and plenty of things to keep your field trip squad busy for an hour or more! Don't forget, this is a FREE location, too!
When you're done, cruise around Marquette or drive a few minutes to hit Lake Superior!
